Screaming Repulsive Symphonies of Void

Borderlands… What is there to say? If I go into too much depth with it you’ll think that I’m exaggerating to the point of being crazy.

“Oh, no game could ever be that great, Hayley. What the Hell are you smoking?”

Think again, Peeps. It can, and it is! 

So, check it:

1. The game’s got role-playing game qualities similar to Bethesda games (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc.).
2. It’s a first person shooter, with more guns than you can keep track of. With qualities, again, throwing back to Bethesda games. Qualities like finding better weapons out in the wild versus buying them, weapons that have elemental advantages (fire, electricity, radiation, etc), and the ability to carry way more than your standard “two” with the beloved (and overrated) Call of Duty games.
3. Limitless play time. If you beat the story line (which is fabulous) you can play through again at the same level you ended with in your first play through. Keep leveling up, baby! Leveling up equals fighting stronger enemies which equals being rewarded with weapons that cause more mayhem which in turn equals fantastically thrilling fight scenes.
4. Vehicles. Psst: Fallout game-designers, GET A CLUE!
5. Online Play. Psst: Bethesda game-designers, GET A BIGGER CLUE!
6. Co-Op Splitscreen. I just want to refer to number 4 or 5 here, but I think my point has been made.

All in all I would say I’d give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I refuse to give them that extra half a star for one reason, which is the comic book-style look to the game.

Granted, it’s a pretty cool idea and an interesting spin on a game. It was a nice try, but no cigar. The realistic appearance of role playing games and first person shooters is what keeps me playing them for months straight. Cartoony, fun-graphics are only what I want to see in side scrollers, simulation, puzzles, etc.
